Sometimes I swear I could break an anvil with a rubber hammer. I've read all of the post about how reliable our Savages are things like she's never left me stranded, very reliable very little maintenance, got 50k miles and all I did was change oil. Well my bike had 1116 miles on it when I bought her and 3300 on her now. Yesterday was the first really warm day that I've had to ride. Took a half day vacation just to ride. Got 14 miles from home went to down shift for a turn and CLUNK. Pulled over looked under the bike and the shifting linkage rod had broken in half. Don't ask me how this could ever happen but 2000 miles and I'm broke down along side the road. Called a buddy to come and get me he brought a truck and trailer and I got home. Don't ask me how but it looks like the rode had somehow got bent and broke. No new part until mid next week. Can't wait that long so improvise. Sanded both pieces of rod took coathanger cut two pieces laid them beside broken rod and used two part epoxy and made like a splint. Bought two real small hose clamps attached on each end and have a temporary fix. Still afraid to go to far from home 8>) Bike actually shifts better. The bent rod had actually started to wear the bottom of the case. No wonder it was hard to shift!!!! Just thought I would share my story. I know it wasn't actually the bikes fault just my bad luck. Just thought I would share my story. Be safe. John
